“The Oasis”

Flying in from Spain, Marrakech was sensory overload - exciting and intimidating. After our minivan driver parked as close to Riad Nomades as possible - we had a 5 minute walk (guided by the driver fortunately), bombarded by noises, sights (the butcher shops worth a special mention), bikes, mopeds, scooters and the occasional donkey and cart. Then we stepped into Riad Nomades, and it is indeed an oasis - security and comfort. It's the perfect base for venturing out to the restaurants, bars, and of course the souks where the shopping i tightly packed, the bargaining is fun, and where you can ge lost without really gettig lost.
Our hosts and their staff were fantastic - and helped us with our every need and all our queries about Marrakech.
Tip: Ensure you acept the offer of the transfer from the airport. It's the best 150 dirhams you'll ever spend.

“Excellent hosts in comfortable no nonsense Riad very centrally located”
Reviewed 1 February 2011
Thoroughly enjoyed staying with Pascal and Pierre, both excellent hosts who know how to make you feel at home in what is actually their own home. Me and my friend had breakfast on the roof terrace a couple of times but also indoors, with all fresh and home made products, nice! (Moroccan breakfast is very sweet though...if you don't have a sweet tooth you might want to bring your own savory things...) Also had dinner their once, traditional chicken tagine, home made again, tasted really well.

Rooms were comfortable, local style, clean, nothing over the top. Also nice that there was heating as we were there during a rare cold spell. Only point about the room I had to get used to was the short time you could shower before the hot water ran out. It feels like you need to rush a bit to not catch the cold water That could be improved, especially when there are two people using the room (we both had our own rooms).

The owners and the staff are very nice and helpful.
There are also a good number of good restaurants at walking distance
“Exceptional hospitality in a comfortable setting”
Reviewed 28 March 2010
Pascal and Pierre-Alain are exceptional hosts, and take great pride in welcoming visitors to their riad and to Marrakech. Pascal in particular went far above and beyond, not only offering helpful advice on the city but gracefully accommodating our fluid travel plans with the help of another riad it seemed he was responsible for -- he even had our bags we left in Marrakech moved to the other riad when we returned from a side trip. He was also all to happy to offer a ride to the train station when he realized we were going there at the same time as he was going to purchase a ticket for a guest who had fallen ill. The riad itself is charming, and the breakfasts were excellent if a bit repetitive. Only complaint might be that Pascal very highly recommended a small family-run desert tour company (Desert Life - Mohamed Boulfrifi) that turned out to be a disappointment -- the scenery along the route and of course the desert itself were not to be missed, as we had been told by Pascal, but we felt taken advantage of and were disappointed with a generally unprofessional approach from the company. I imagine riad owners who are likely to recommend the services get better treatment!

Pascal and Pierre run a lovely Riad here. They were very friendly and Pascal's English is good so that you can ask him the many questions you have about Marrakech. When we arrived Pascal greeted us warmly and gave us mint tea and pastries while he talked us through vital information and provided us a with a decent map to find our way to the main square.

We stayed in the suite there and it was beautifully decorated but just a tad too dark. Also the internet did not work for some of the time we were there which was a shame as we had paid for the suite with a computer. Appreciated though that this could not be helped. The suite was kept clean throughout our stay.

Breakfast was served in good time - 8:30am till 11am. It tasted lovely but would have been nice to have a choice some days. Waiter service was great.

Make sure you try the mint tea - Pascal makes it beautifully.
Also take good ear plugs - the early morning call for prayer across the city will wake you.
“The best place to experience Moroccan living”

Excellent service. Brigitte, Herve and staffs were friendly, helpful and attentive, they make sure that we were well looked after all the time but not being intrusive on our privicy. It is located close to most of the main attractions and good for shopping at the Souqs for leather goods and local crafts. The Riad is full of characters and we could experience true Moroccan living.
The room was too dark at night, it would be perfect if stronger lighting were fitted. Because of it's location, taxi could only dropped us off at the main street and we had to walked through dark alleyways to access the Riad, we were a group of three so we felt safe but would not recommended for lone female traveller.

We stayed here for three nights. Hidden in a side street, Riad Nomades is in a perfect location to experience the bustling life of Marrakesh. It is close to the main square (5 minute walk) and souqs.

The owners gave great advice for getting around and haggling and a lovely breakfast is served unti 11am each morning which can be enjoyed on one of the two terraces.

Fully recommended for a relaxing stay.
“a comfortable oasis smack dab in the middle of where you want to be”

A really lovely find; I felt safe and comfortable and the charm of the place surpassed my expectations. I loved the rooftop terraces, the fact the place combined European-style comforts (wifi, truly hot water, real and immediate responsiveness of owners when the lock on our door went wonky and when I couldn't figure out how to turn the heater on...) with the feel of being in a truly foreign place.

It's true, it's down a few alleyways which, the first time down, might make you pause a little. But you'll soon learn this is because it's in a great location - in the heart of an area that's full of little alleys like that.

Pascale and Pierre-Alain are characters (they're full of opinions - as people who've lived in a country for years are wont to be!) but I appreciated their attentiveness and the fact that they truly care about running a quality business. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this riad to a friend - I already have.

Located in the medina of marrakech you'll find this typical riad hotel as an ideal location to discover the old city center of Marrakech. The hosts Pascal and Pierre Alain are really trying their best to help you getting around. Reservations for excellent restaurants are easily made. The rooms are charming and well equiped. There is a roof terrace with stunning views over the city with the mountains of the Atlas in the background. A real good breakfast is served. Evening diners can be served after reservation. Good personal bar service.

Having never been to Marrakesh before, we took this Riad on a recomendation. At first, I was worried about what we had done as we walked down poorly lit aleys you would avoid in the UK. What was all the fuss about?

Once through the little door in a wall everything made sense.

The owners, Peirre-Alain and Pacal are wonderfully friendly and well-versed with un-intitiated travellers. They know lots about the city and they are happy to share their advise and help make reservations etc.

The following day and we woke at 10.30 to be led to the roof terrace for a wonderful breakfast (included). Pascal gave us a roof top guided tour. The Riad is very centrally located right in the heart of the medina, close enough to the main activity to be there in 5 mins but far enough for peace and quiet. It really was perfect.

Marrakesh is an infusion of colours, sounds and cultures. Its facinating and exhausting. At the end of the day, it was a pleasure to walk (the very safe) alleys to find out temporay home. Thanks PA and P.

It was our 1st trip to Marrakech so we did not really have any idea what to expect. We booked Riad Nomades after a recommendation from a colleague and will be sending them a bottle of wine as a thank you as it was exactly what we wanted. It is hidden in the back streets of the Medina and when you enter through the small wooden door you enter the most beautiful house. It is a traditional Marrakech house which has kept the original features. From the beginning our hosts made us feel at home. We stayed there for 7 nights and it was definitely the highlight of our trip.

“A veritable OASIS in the soukhs of the Medina!”
Reviewed 23 April 2009
The Riad Nomades was the perfect place to stay in marrakech. It is in the heart of the Medina, you go out and you are in a colorfull, vivid soukh. Only 10 minutes walk to the Jemaa el Fna place and virtually walking distance to everywhere in Marrakech, even the places in the new city (we never took a taxi: we walked). Despite being in the pulsing center, it is a real oasis: you walk a little quiet street from the soukh, enter the riad, and you are in heaven! No more noises; instead, the sound of the water fountain in the patio and the singing of birds. Pascal and Pierre Alain, the owners, have invested alot of energy with an amazing love for the detail in order to create a fantastic dreaming athmosphere. It is simple, clean and beautifull. Two great terrasses -the higher one with breathtaking view, on clear days you see the Atlas mountains in the horizon- with their birdcages and chaisselonges are the perfect place for relaxing after a day of walking, shopping and museums. The breakfast is delicious (freshly squeezed orange juice, tea or coffee, different marocan pancakes, lemon/orange/figs marmelade..) and can be taken (until 11AM!!) in the ground floor alongside the fountain, or in either terrasse, or in your room: it is YOU who decide! We had once dinner in the riad: it was lovely prepared and delicious, also great value for money. We ordered to be picked up at the airport (i strongly recommend this; otherwise it migh be difficult for you to find the riad), a service which worked perfectly... Well you see, I have only positive memories of our stay in Nomades. I want to thank heartly Pascal and Pierre Alain, as well as Fatima and Ibrahim for making our stay absolutely pleasant!
“An excellent riad - friendly, clean and full of character”
Reviewed 20 April 2009
This is a lovely place. It's down a side passage off a bustling thoroughfare in the north medina, lined with shops and full of shoppers, tradesmen and people on motorized scooters. We had two rooms - our sons aged 17 and 20 had one and we had the other - both were excellent. We found all staff at the riad very friendly and helpful. Pascal, one of the owners, met us when we arrived and gave us information about how to get round Marrakech. He also offered to take us down to the main square the following day. Although we didn't take the offer up, he was as good as his word as he called to us see us the following day before he made his way into town. We also arranged to have a vegetarian meal the night we arrived. It was really good, and very plentiful - we'd recommend eating here one night on your stay - the wine and beer are good too!
The riad offers to get someone to pick you up at the airport for a 15 euro fee. This is a reasonable deal and the driver takes you to the door - the riad is about three minutes walk from the nearest point that cars can reach (which, of course, means there is no traffic noise). I doubt whether a general taxi driver would find the riad easily.
The breakfast are good too - fresh pancakes and fruit. We had ours served on the terrace overlooking the town and the Atlas mountains. There's a covered area too - very good spot for a quiet read.
We walked through the more modern part of Marrakech, where many of the western style hotels are. You really could be anywhere in Europe in this quarter. Riad Nomades is the real thing. If you want an authentic experience in a place central to the heart of Marrakech, then this fits the bill. Our sons thought it was great too.

We stayed at Riad Nomades for 5 nights over New Year and found it to be a great place to stay in the very heart of the northern Medina.
We were collected from the airport by a taxi booked through the Riad in advance (15 Euro) and were met by one of the owners (Pascal) from the taxi and guided on foot for the last few hundred yards through the narrow alleys with typical Marrakech hustle and bustle to the Riad door.
Pascal gave us an introduction over complimentary mint tea which included providing a street map which he explained to us and marked up with some recomended places to eat/visit.
Our stay at Riad Nomades was very enjoyable with a fabulous breakfast including pancakes each day which could be taken either in the ground floor central courtyard or on the roof terrace if the weather was warm enough.
Both of the owners (Pascal & Pierre-Alain) and their staff were very friendly & helpful throughout our stay despite the fact that our inability to speak much french didn't help communication, but that is part of the joy of being on holiday.
The only negative that we experienced was that the DVD player in the room did not work but this is a minor point.
Good Riad in very central location.

The owners and staff were perfect hosts, really friendly, attentive but never invasive of our privicy. Very helpful with directions and provided an essential map with routes indicated to navigate the medina. We found the location ideal as it is far enough away from Jemma El Fna not to be too busy, but within easy walking distance (truely under 10 mins). Situated to the north of the souks it gave perfect access to all locations on foot including Majorelle gardens and Gueliz. Good place to get a taxi from just 2 min walk away. It was great to have such a nice place to come back and rest in after a day of walking the streets and souks and to enjoy a beer or bottle of wine on the terrace before going out in the evening. The breakfasts served on the terrace were delicious and made us regret, on the last day that we hadn't taken the opportunity to eat a meal at the riad. Next time.

The staff are all incredibly friendly and really make you feel welcome. The riad's location is good once you get your bearings. The roof terrace is a fantastic place to have breakfast or unwind at the end of the day.

As it is an old building it can get a bit noisy at night (calls for prayers are broadcast round town early in the morning) but that is something you have to accept if you stay in a traditional riad as opposed to a modern hotel.

It’s always a bit risky booking accommodaton on the internet
but on this occasion we struck gold! It was a great find, and Pascal and Pierre-Alain were perfect hosts, who made us feel very welcome. The Riad is in the heart of the Medina and is within easy walking distance of most of the places you’d want to visit. It is very comfortable and well appointed, and has a great ambience. Having breakfast on the roof terrace, in the morning sunshine, was a particular highlight, as was returning from an exhausting day wandering the Souks to enjoy a cold beer (or two) overlooking the rooftops of Marrakech to the Atlas Mountains beyond.

An oasis of peace and tranquillity amidst the hustle and bustle of the Medina. We’d have no hesitation in recommending the Riad to anyone, and we would certainly choose to stay there again if we return to Marrakech (as we most certainly will)
A memorable visit.

The Staff were excellent and could not have been more helpful, and the location Good.
However we were disappointed that we were asked to pay in Cash or pay a 15% surcharge if paying by credit card, I am in business myself and know the max surcharge should be between 2 and 4%
Also the owners insisted we had to pay an additional 15 euros to make up the single bed in the 2nd room, saying that our children should share the double bed or pay the extra.
The owners gave the impression of trying to get every last cent they could from the tourist.
This Riad is a rare example of the staff being let down by the attitude of the Owner
My advise is to try and pay via a booking agent and avoid any extras.

Overall we had a good stay. The location is good and the staff and owners are fantastic - they did a lot to make sure we had a great stay. We ended up staying in the more rustic Tataoui room which is on the top level - nice but I would request one of the rooms on the lower level and pay the extra 5 euro a night. I am guessing this room was a late addition to the Riad and, despite the best efforts of the staff, there was often an 'aroma' of old Medina plumbing wafting through our room. This was not an issue in the other rooms and certainly overall the Riad is very clean and pleasant with quaint places to spend hot afternoons away from the bustle of the medina reading, relaxing or snoozing. The owners also have a well stocked bar (extra charge) and a good selection of movies to choose from.

This riad is located in the middle of the Medina, but is still very quiet. It’s about a 10-15 minute walk (if you’re not shopping along the way!) to the main square, Djemaa el Fna.

The courtyard and rooms are tastefully decorated in Moroccan style.
The rooms are clean and comfortable – ours had heat and A/C.
The rooftop terrace has great views over Marrakech.
Every morning, there is a nice breakfast with homemade jams.

Pierre and Pascal are wonderful hosts. They strike a good balance between being available and helpful, but also leaving you alone and not making you feel like you are an intruder (a feeling we’ve had at other small places where the owner lives).
We checked a number of riads and hotels online and found Riad Nomades to be a great value.

To see some of Marrakech beyond the Medina and for good views of the Atlas Mountains, would recommend a walk out to Menara Gardens.
Eating in the main square, Djemaa el Fna, is an experience, but we weren’t thrilled with the food or the atmosphere. However, it’s nice to have a coffee in one of the many cafes on the side of the square and enjoy the show!
If you’re tired of Moroccan food, consider Trattoria de Giancarlo (in Gueliz, a short taxi ride from Riad Nomades). It’s on the expensive side, but the setting and food (Italian) are phenomenal.

Excellent; Pascal is a great host. Riad is relxing, clean, beautiful throughout, completely peaceful given the chaos of the Medina streets. Great location; walking distance to "the Square", Souks, Museum, etc...and also 1 minute walk from major taxi stand at riad Larousse. Do yourself a favor and take a cab from the airport; it takes sometime to get used to walking the Medina as well as getting a sense of direction. Breakfast on the terrace is fantastic. Good wifi as well all throughout.
